Adm Motor Vehicle

Teens are often taught how to drive by parents or relatives. Only a handful of students can afford to take driver education, especially when driving classes present a financial hardship. Written driving tests can be taken online in many states, so there's no way of knowing how many students actually cheat, getting help with the answers.

Teens and veteran motor vehicle operators react more slowly to driving conditions when distracted. Inattention to possible dangerous situations, such as a pedestrian suddenly stepping off a curb into the street, costs lives. Kevin Bakewell, writing in AAA Going Places magazine, "Distracted Driving" (May/June 2009, p. 72), refers to teenage drivers, stating, "They have a decreased margin of safety, which leads them to take risks they might not otherwise take, such as turning left in front of a motorcycle or other oncoming traffic."
